Valorisation of Precious Metals (PMs) into single PMs streams

During this first year of the project, TECNALIA (ES) has been working on the use of Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES) for the extraction and separation of PMs (i.e., Pd, Pt, Rh, Ag and Au) from different input streams: spent autocatalysts, low and mid-grade PCBAs and EoL PV panels, as well as residual matrices from the concentration stage of the PEACOC project (i.e., Sn and Cu concentrate). Based on the experience developed in this area by TECNALIA, several DES were synthetised and tested under various operational conditions in order to optimise the selective extraction and separation of the PMs.

Throughout the project’s lifetime, TECNALIA will continue optimising the DES process while combining it with electrochemical processes, to further improve the selective extraction and separation of the PMs and to valorise these elements for new markets.
